MOORHEAD — The Moorhead boys lacrosse and baseball teams open state tournaments this week in the Twin Cities metro area, one for the fifth-straight year and the other for the first time in 35 years.
The Spuds lacrosse team, the five-time defending Section 8 champion, drew the No. 7 seed in the eight-team state tournament field and plays No. 2 Stillwater in the quarterfinals at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at Eden Prairie High School.
The Spuds defeated St. Michael-Albertville 6-3 on Thursday in the section championship game.
Stillwater returns to the state tournament for a second-straight year after defeating White Bear Lake 11-8 in the Section 4A title game. The Ponies also played in the 2022 and 2021 state tournaments.
