NEW ORLEANS — A GoFundMe was launched for a 90-year-old U.S. Air Force Veteran who is working as a cart pusher to make ends meet.

Former WWL Louisiana anchor Karen Swensen witnessed Dillon McCormick pushing carts on Memorial Day and decided that she could help by sharing his story.

He told Swensen that he i s working to eat and needs $2,500 a month to live. He says he only gets $1,100 from Social Security, so he has to work.

Swensen started the GoFundMe for the military veteran on Monday.

As of 9 p.m. on Tuesday, more than $220,000 had been raised.

Swensen updated the GoFundMe page to explain her decision to increase the original goal from $35k to $200,000.
