A woman was swept away in a California National Park river attempting to save her sister over Memorial Day weekend. Search efforts have now been scaled back due to "dangerous river conditions."

On May 25, Jomarie Calasanz was swept away by fast-moving currents in the Middle Fork of the Kaweah River near Paradise Creek Bridge. Jomarie jumped into the current-laden river in an attempt to save her sister, Joanne. While Joanne was able to make it to shore, Jomarie was pulled under and was not seen again.

Since the accident, Joanne has spoken out , stating that Jomarie was always her "protector."
