AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - One person has died after an officer-involved shooting at Walmart, located at 4215 Canyon Drive, on Sunday.

According to officials, members of the Asset Protection Team at Walmart attempted to make contact with a person asleep inside their car in the store’s parking lot.

The person would not wake up, so the Amarillo Police Department was contacted.

When officers arrived, they also made contact with the person and tried to wake them.

Officers then noticed that there was a firearm inside of the car, so they backed away from the vehicle.

Officials say one shot was heard from the vehicle, so APD officers returned fire.

No Amarillo Police Department officers were injured, but the person inside of the vehicle has died, officials say.
