PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A family of six has been displaced from their home after a fire in Portsmouth on Friday evening.
At 6 p.m., firefighters from Portsmouth and Chesapeake responded to the house fire in the 100 block of Kings Gate Drive. That’s off Airline Boulevard near the Roses store.
Crews found heavy smoke coming from the front of the house when they arrived. They extinguished the fire without it spreading to any nearby structures.
Two adults, four children and two dogs are displaced. However, they are safe thanks to working smoke alarms, according to the press release from Portsmouth Fire-Rescue.
The fire was caused accidentally due to unattended cooking on the stove.
