HELENA, Mont. (KUMV) - There are 24 active wildfires in Montana as of this weekend. This week, Governor Greg Gianforte met with officials to discuss the wildfire season.

Meteorologists predict a warm and dry summer for the state, especially in western Montana.

During his fire briefing, Gianforte said federal, tribal, and local agencies are all preparing and doing their best to limit catastrophic damage.

“Wildfire crisis requires active collaboration across all agencies and all levels. Together we can build healthy, resilient forests and communities, but it will take all of us,” said Gianforte.

Gianforte said people also need to do their part to reduce the chances of human-caused fires, such as maintaining and cleaning farm equipment as well as making sure trailer chains are not draggin
