IDAHO, USA — The Salmon-Challis National Forest has closed two pit areas to public access through August 31 due to ongoing construction activities and contractor camping operations.

The closure, effective June 6 at 4 p.m., restricts access to the Blind Summit Pit and State Pit areas under Forest Service order 0413-25-003. The closure will remain in effect through Aug. 31 at 11:59 p.m.

The Blind Summit Pit is located in Section 31, Township 12 North, Range 12 East, Boise Meridian. The State Pit sits in Section 16, Township 12 North, Range 11 East, Boise Meridian.

Forest Service officials cited public safety concerns related to construction activities and contractor camping as the reason for the temporary restrictions.
