E-bike ‘library’ for workers who commute could help
Marin’s biggest cause of air pollution is automobiles. Too many Marin nurses, cooks and sales clerks (among others) are forced to drive long distances (likely in older cars) because trains and buses don’t efficiently travel to their workplaces or residences. The gas prices harm their pockets, and the fumes damage our planet.
I have a straightforward solution for both issues: Marin County needs to open a small e-bike “library.” The county should purchase 100 electric bikes (some normal-sized, some large cargo ones) and allow low-income workers to borrow them for around $5 a week instead of driving.
It’s working elsewhere. Denver residents who acquired e-bikes canceled out more than three car trips a week. Oakland is launching its own re
