COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - A 911 call on June 7, 2021, launched a criminal investigation into a double murder in rural Colleton County that would make national headlines.

Alex Murdaugh, a prominent Lowcountry attorney, was the caller.

“This is Alex Murdaugh at 4147 Mosel Rd. I need the police and an ambulance immediately! My wife and child have been shot badly!” he said.

Murdaugh made the call from his family’s hunting property in the Islandton community. His wife, Maggie, and their son, Paul , had been shot to death sometime between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. that night near dog kennels on the property.
