The Historic Old West End Festival began Saturday morning with the traditional King Wamba Carnival Parade stepping off for the 116th year amongst that neighborhood’s backdrop of century-old mansions.
Delighted children caught candy. Snare drums inspired foot-tapping. And calls of “Happy Festival” rang out.
Souped-up cars roared their engines, while a slew of Slingshots — open-air, three-wheeled roasters — pulsated down Robinwood Avenue in an array of colors.
Marge Watterworth, of Toledo, and her family rented an Airbnb home to make sure they had a prime festival location all weekend. Their two rented golf carts were stocked with breakfast sliders and mimosas for the parade.
Ms. Watterworth, who lived in the Old West End for 10 years, said she would never miss a festival.
“This is ho
