For the past three years, Brighton dominated Division 1 girls lacrosse.
Prior to Brighton’s reign, it was eight-straight years of Rockford lifting the state championship trophy.
On Saturday at University of Michigan’s Lacrosse Stadium, neither team competed for the title, as it was South Lyon United (23-0) and Hartland’s (20-5) turn to end their respective state finals droughts.
South Lyon has had state-finals talent in past seasons, but Brighton stood in the way of its championship aspirations.
“At the end of last year when they lost to Brighton, they realized they didn’t do exactly what they could’ve done,” South Lyon head coach Deanna Radcliffe said. “I told them after that game that if everyone worked a little bit harder, we could surprise ourselves next year.”
