EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick has expressed his deepest apologies for uttering a derogatory term about disabled individuals and, according to reports, he has been suspended from the BBC series.

The development emerges half a year after he featured on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing , during which the incident reportedly occurred. ‌

The 30-year-old, who has portrayed Jay Brown in EastEnders since 2006, is allegedly on leave from the show following the emergence of a video in which he used insensitive language, apparently shared among friends. ‌

Borthwick is said to have been captured on film using a pejorative word referring to people in Blackpool whilst the BBC programme was recording a special live episode at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom.
