OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - More than 800 Bellevue University students walked into Mid-America Center for graduation.
With caps and gowns on, the occasion marks the end of a long road for the 2025 class.
For Starr Shamp, her journey started seven years ago.
In 2018, she was given life altering news; stage four breast cancer. A diagnosis she received a month before her 28th birthday.
“It was something that just kind of came out of nowhere,” said Shamp. “It was a little bit surreal because I did not know that it was going to happen.”
Starr celebrated her 28th birthday with her first round of treatments. At the time, the Illinois woman was working full time when she decide to make a change.
Through her experience, she noticed a lack of support for survivorship.
