DULUTH — It was a regular “bananarama” on Saturday in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, but members of the English pop group known for songs like “Cruel Summer” and “Venus” were not present.

Instead, hundreds laced up their sneakers for a 2-mile run, starting and finishing at Bent Paddle Brewing Co, with an “a-peeling” addition to their running wardrobe: a banana suit. If that wasn’t enough, the object of this race wasn’t just to finish, it was to finish ahead of another costumed competitor that was wearing a gorilla suit.

More than 430 people made up a banana bunch with that goal in mind as part of the inaugural Going Bananas Run.
