As the Philadelphia Phillies continue their interstate series with the Pittsburgh Pirates, they'll be without the face of the franchise.

First baseman Bryce Harper has been placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Friday, with right wrist inflammation . And according to the slugger, it sounds more severe than any Philly fan would've liked to hear.

"It got to the point where I can't really function on a baseball field or hit a baseball," Harper said before Saturday's game. "It's a good time for me to take some time and get it right."

Harper largely echoed manager Rob Thomson's thinking with that answer. Topper said Friday that anything involving the hands or feet is concerning and wouldn't be something the club overlooks.
