Benicia High School principal Brianna Kleinschmidt created some laughs on Saturday morning when she said she’s been asked over and over again if the Class of 2025 was her favorite.

“Yes, it is, but don’t tell anyone,” Kleinschmidt said. “But I promise you that the class holds very dear to my heart.”

Hundreds of friends, family, teachers and coaches looked on as 312 graduates received their diploma at Drolette Stadium. Seventy of them were principal scholars — students who had a grade point average of 4.0 or higher.

The valedictorian was Maya Chakraverty, who reminded the class that “dreams don’t necessarily have to be beautiful, they just have to be ours.” She also thanked her parents and her little brother, along with teachers that helped her along the way. Closing her speech, she said
