The Memphis Grizzlies have issued a medical update on center Zach Edey following an offseason training injury.
According to a media release shared by the team on Saturday, June 7, Edey re-sprained his left ankle during a training session this week. Imaging also revealed excessive ligamentous laxity, as stated in the release.
Edey is expected to undergo surgery to re-stabilize his ankle and to address the laxity. There is no update on his planned return though the Grizzlies say they will release a timeline after surgery. Edey is expected to miss the beginning of the 2025-2026 season but it is unclear how many games.
Despite the setback, the Grizzlies emphasized that Edey is expected to make a full recovery.
Edey was the Grizzlies first round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft at ninth overall.
