The door just closed on Bishop Grimes baseball’s dream of hoisting a state championship banner, much like the door that was shut following the Catholic Diocese’s decision to close the school at the end of the year.

The Cobras’ baseball squad was the last active sports team for the school, which will merge with Bishop Ludden next fall.

“These kids, everything they’ve been through, they came together,” head coach Matt Capriotti said. “They played for each other. They played for the school, and it meant everything to us.”

The Cobras fell to Section IV champion Deposit-Hancock, 4-3, in Saturday’s regional championship matchup, but the bus ride home wasn’t all tears.
