AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Amarillo Police Department has released new details on a deadly officer-involved shooting at Walmart on Georgia Street.
Around 11:38 a.m., officers responded to Walmart to conduct a welfare check on a man reported to be sleeping inside a car.
While trying to communicate with the man, officers observed a gun inside the car. Officers backed away for safety, and that’s when police say a shot was fired from inside the car.
In response, one officer discharged their weapon.
The man, later identified as Justin Lee Crouch, was found dead in the car.
No officers were hurt in the incident.
The Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the event.
