LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

On Saturday, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg joined advocates, survivors and families to take part in the national "Wear Orange" campaign.

The movement honors the lives lost to gun violence and helps raise awareness about prevention.

The event, held as part of Wear Orange Weekend, included a community gathering, personal stories from survivors, remarks from local and state leaders, and a peace walk to promote unity.

"First of all, it's raising awareness to the problem, to this tremendous problem we have with gun violence," said Rose Smith with Everytown for Gun Safety. "But the importance of it also is to remember the survivors standing behind me and so many more."

Wear Orange Weekend has been observed nationwide every year since 2013.
