Memphis Grizzlies center Zach Edey received bad news on the injury front.
The former Purdue basketball star re-sprained his left ankle in an offseason workout and will undergo surgery to re-stabilize it, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. He will likely miss the beginning of the 2025-26 season.
The Grizzlies said Edey is expected to make a full recovery .
Edey started 55 of 66 games for the Grizzlies during his rookie season. He averaged 9.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots per game. Edey took fifth in the NBA Rookie of the Year voting and made first-team All-Rookie.
While at Purdue, Edey was named the national college player of the year twice.
