NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WFSB) - Volunteers are critical during emergencies or helping run community events in Connecticut on Saturday.

Your local certified emergency response team or CERT does more than you may realize.

At Central Connecticut State University more than 200 CERT members from 47 towns around the state came for an annual training.

CERT team members will help first responders with traffic control or shutting down roads, sheltering people who need it.

CERT teams helped during the pandemic when dispersing PPE or when the COVID-19 vaccine was first rolled out.
