LAS VEGAS — The American Red Cross is calling on Southern Nevadans to donate blood this June as part of its Summertime of Giving Sweepstakes.

Participants have the chance to win one of two $7,000 gift cards, and all donors this month will receive a $15 Amazon.com gift card by email as a token of appreciation.

Every summer, blood donations decrease nationwide as schools close and families go on vacation.

The Red Cross supplies 40% of the nation’s blood to hospitals and transfusion centers, and approximately 20 hospitals in Southern Nevada rely on these donations to care for their patients.

"We are urging Southern Nevada residents to schedule a blood donation in the coming weeks to help support the blood supply and ensure hospitals can meet patient needs," said a Red Cross representativ
