ELTOPIA, Wash.–A natural fire destroyed a vacant mobile home Friday evening on Elm Rd. in Eltopia, seven miles east of Hwy 395.
The fire started because the mobile home owner was burning around the yard with no safety precautions, said Eric Mauseth, Franklin County Fire District #1 chief.
Three crews responded and arrived on scene around 7:30 p.m. and it was handled around 11 p.m., Mauseth said. One crew remained on scene this morning to cover hot spots.
The total footprint was less than five acres, Mauseth said.
At least five fires this year got out of control because people burned without safety precautions, and Mauseth said people should not be burning during fire season.
