ORONO, Maine — Despite a drizzly Saturday, spirits were bright at the Special Olympics Maine Summer Games , where athletes from across the state took to the track and field at the University of Maine in Orono.
Cheers, encouragement, and the sound of determined footsteps echoed across the track and field as competitors put months of training into action.
“Everybody’s just eager to get out and showcase what they’ve been doing and all the hard work they’ve been putting in,” Special Olympics Maine President Ian Frank said.
From track events to long jump and softball throws, athletes had plenty of opportunities to show off their skills.
“We’ve been doing shotput, standing long-jump, I just did the 100-meter dash,” competitor Dale Hall said,
