Upper Darby firefighters were sent to a house fire in the 300 block of Margate Road about 6:45 p.m. Saturday, with subsequent calls from the scene reporting people on the second floor of the house trying to escape the fire building.

Police arrived in the block and began evacuating residences. Police said they were working to get a woman on oxygen out of the residence, plus there was a report of a 10-year-old also inside.

There were some anxious moments at the scene.

Fire crews quickly fanned out and before 7 p.m. a knock on the flames was declared and searches of the fire building were negative, according to radio traffic.

It was unclear whether that youth was ever in the building.
