CROSWELL — When Katie Shuboy is on the mound, it's difficult to stop the Richmond softball team.

When she's given ample run support, it's practically impossible.

Saturday was a clear example, as Shuboy and the Blue Devils defeated Marysville, 7-3, in a Division 2 regional final at Lyle M. Clarkson Field.

The senior threw 10 strikeouts and allowed just one hit for Richmond, which improved to 29-7-0 overall and advanced to Tuesday's state semifinal against Goodrich.

Marysville finished the season at 24-8-1.

The Blue Devils' bats were active from the outset. In the bottom of the first inning, Ashley Stafford's RBI single opened the scoring.

Two innings later, she drove in another run on a groundout. Shuboy immediately followed with an RBI single that put Richmond in front, 3-0.
