WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) - Winnebago County announced that a portion of Wisconsin Route 21 will be known as “Purple Heart Highway”, honoring our troops who’ve been wounded or killed while serving in our armed forces.
This is the first highway to be dedicated to Purple Heart veterans in Winnebago County. The roadway stretches from Oshkosh all the way to the west side of the state.
Roy Rogers, a veteran of the U.S. Marines, says he’s been fighting for this sign for just over half a year, and seeing it up now means the world to him.
“I didn’t know if it would ever come to pass, but I’m really happy it’s there cause I’m a Purple Heart veteran. I was wounded in Vietnam, and I have a lot of friends here who are also wounded. I’m just glad we got the sign there,” says Rogers.
