BATAVIA, N.Y. — The Genesee County Sheriff's Office is warning people to be alert when it comes to scams involving paving or asphalt work.

Law enforcement officials said with the transition to warmer weather, people or groups will often go door-to-door, offering discounted paving or asphalt work.

"They typically claim to have leftover stone, blacktop or millings. They will pressure you to act quickly to 'get a great deal.' They will typically work out of unmarked trucks and use high-pressure sales tactics to rush the sale. These individuals typically do not have permits," the sheriff's office said.
