PLYMOUTH, N.C. (WITN) - The 11th annual National Black Bear Festival closed out today with plenty of fun and excitement!

The event was created to celebrate North Carolina bears, and it provides an opportunity for people to learn about bears while having fun, rain or shine!

“It’s a great learning experience about bears in general in North Carolina,” bear biologist Jenna Malzahn said. “We have a fun game where they can play where they can learn how many calories are in each food item.”

The festival is held in Plymouth each year and is close to the Albemarle-Pamilco Peninsula, which is home to one of the biggest black bear populations in the world.
