Man, Jacob deGrom is good. And is good as a member of the Texas Rangers, to boot.

Just 81 pitches to go seven innings. He had a shot at a Maddux if Bruce Bochy and the Rangers weren’t being cautious with his workload.

deGrom’s approach was pretty simple. He threw mostly fastballs and sliders, and the Nationals couldn’t handle it. He did throw 7 changeups, but they mostly went for balls. He generated 10 whiffs on the slider and 5 on the fastball.

Eight Ks on the game for deGrom. No walks, though he hit a batter, and two base hits. It was masterful.

Luke Jackson tried to stress everyone out by giving up a single and then issuing a walk to start the bottom of the eighth, with the Rangers up 5-0, but a GIDP and a GISP ended that.
