BEAUMONT, Texas — Roy West has defeated Robin Mouton in the runoff election and will be the next mayor of Beaumont.

West beat Mouton with 6,466 votes, or 50.81% of the vote to retina his seat. Mouton received 6.259 votes, or 49.19% of the votes.

During the municipal election 3,141 voted on Election Day in the Beaumont mayoral race while 10,305 voted early and 530 voted absentee, according to Jefferson County records.

In the runoff election 10,172 voted early.

This marked the second consecutive time that Mayor West and former Mayor Mouton headed into a runoff.

"The people decide who's going to be their mayor. This is the process. I respect that," said West.
