Families gathered at the South Omaha Library to learn how they can prevent youth violence.
"We need a solid home, a communication and a home well-being and a home. And therefore, our children can come out and be great members in our community," said Sen. Victor Roundtree.
Leaders from different backgrounds shared their perspectives.
Ron Johnson, a former gang member, emphasized the importance of providing kids with relatable leaders.
"We have to have mentors that look like us, walk like us," said Ron Johnson, gang and prevention coordinator at DCYC.
Police officer Jose Falcon made it known that police are here to help citizens, not hurt them.
