AKRON — Springfield’s second crack at a state softball championship was denied Saturday night by a Dover team that simply outpitched and outhit the Blue Devils in a 10-0, six-inning mercy-rule victory in the Division III title game at Firestone Stadium in Akron.

The top-ranked Tornadoes (28-3) were led in the circle by junior ace Kara Lint, who struck out 11 Springfield batters in her complete-game three-hitter. The Dover offense was paced by junior shortstop and leadoff hitter Jenna Molk, who homered twice, doubled, drove in four runs, and scored four in the win.

Their work, along with timely contributions from their teammates, gave Dover its first state softball crown. The Tornadoes had lost in the 2008 D-II semifinal in their only prior state appearance.
