SANTA MONICA—On June 6, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were in Los Angeles County executing search warrants in sanctuary for individuals who are harboring immigrants with criminal records. The areas with the largest ICE presence were Los Angeles County, including Santa Monica, California. ICE agents in New York were launching similar raids. Reports indicate that there was a heavy police presence. The Los Angeles Police Department, Chief Jim McDonald issued a statement proclaiming that his officers “would not be cooperating with ICE.” The presence of the local police was required to help maintain peace until the U.S. military arrived.
