GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Gainesville Police Department leaders honored twelve deputies and six communication officers with the Police Service Award.

The award recognizes law enforcement for their collaborative efforts.

Chief Nelson Moya awarded local agency partners for their help in an investigation from last year.

They said Columbia County and Alachua County deputies assisted officers with the investigation following a January 2024 fatal shooting.

The suspect initially fled, leading officers on a high-speed chase.

When officers found him, the suspect provided a full confession.

They say deputies and officers from both agencies helped bring the violent suspect into custody.
