DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Decatur Boat Races kicked off on Saturday morning, bringing in thousands of spectators.
Terri Hammel, Executive Director at the Decatur Visitor's Bureau, said that they are expecting a larger turn out than last year. "Last year we were around 7000 [people]. I think because it's the second year, I think we might meet that expectation and more because more people are going to remember, 'Oh, it was last year. Maybe I want to try to be sure and get it this year.'" she said.
Sunday promises sunnier skies and even more racing. "Of course, you can't have a bad boat race, everybody loves a boat race. The sound of those boats racing, the smell of the food trucks, the VIP area, the arts and crafts area -- I mean, we've got it all for everybody." Hammel said.
