CANISTEO, N.Y. (WENY) -- Authorities in Steuben County say several people are safe after a water rescue mission in Canisteo on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Bath Volunteer Fire Department's Facebook , just before 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, emergency crews were called in for reports of a child stuck in a tube, but the situation quickly escalated.

First responders arrived on the scene to see a group of people stranded on an island in the river surrounded by fast-moving waters. The Bath Volunteer Fire Department's Swift Water Team launched their boat upstream and made three trips in total across the river to rescue everyone.
