SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Offense got the ball rolling for the Sioux Falls Jefferson High School softballl team.

And pitching brought home the State AA Championship.

Jefferson scored two in the first inning and single runs in the second and fifth and went on to shut the Warriors out 4-0 on Saturday at Bowden Field on the Augustana University campus.

Whitney Portner led Jefferson (20-3) at the plate, going 2-4 with two RBI on a first inning double. Tya Devericks and Brooklyn Herrera each drove in a run as well to stake the Cavaliers to their 4-0 lead through four and a half innings.

Portner started the game, pitching 3.2 shutout innings with three hits allowed and four strikeouts. Devericks then came on to work the final 3.1 innings, also yielding just three and striking out
