Colorado Springs officials are asking city departments to prepare for expense cuts later this year as the city's sales tax revenue remains flatter than expected.
The city's 2025 budget had included a forecast that sales tax revenue would increase by around 3.5% from the previous year. Instead, tax revenue from the first quarter of the year has remained about the same as it was in 2024.
The most recent sales tax report from April, which covers taxes collected through March 31, shows Colorado Springs has received $56 million in sales tax revenue. The revenue is up slightly from the first quarter of 2024, when the city brought in $55.6 million in tax revenue.
