Jacinda Ardern was the prime minister of New Zealand from October 2017-January 2023. During her tenure, after the Christchurch Mosque shootings, New Zealand passed restrictions on semiautomatic firearms and magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds. In an overwhelming majority, with a parliamentary vote of 119 to 1, they took action that the United States has proven to be unable to accomplish.

She was asked to speak to the 2025 Yale graduating class.
