Longview council to vote on appointment of new fire chief

The Longview City Council is set to vote Thursday on the appointment the city's next fire chief.

Greg Grimes, assistant chief of operations with the Allen Fire Department, is the recommendation after a national search to replace J.P. Steelman, who retired from the Longview Fire Department in March.

"After a national search supported by Strategic Government Resources, and a thorough evaluation process that included input from the city director's team, the fire department leadership, staff, and members of the fire department at large, including fire association representatives, I am pleased to recommend Greg for appointment," City Manager Rolin McPhee said.
