ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Three years after she lost her first Grand Slam final at the 2022 French Open at age 18, No. 2-ranked Coco Gauff defeated Aryna Sabalenka on Saturday to claim her first French Open trophy.

After dropping the first set 6-7, Gauff came back to win the final two 6-2, 6-4.

She defeated the No. 1-ranked Sabalenka, who herself on Thursday ended Iga Swiatek’s three-year reign as the winner of the French Open in the semifinals. Gauff also bested reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys in the quarterfinals and Lois Boisson in the semifinals.

The 21-year-old Gauff was born in Atlanta and spent her early years there before moving to Delray Beach, Florida, where she pursued greater opportunities in tennis.
