A cat has been rescued from a concrete ledge on the eighth floor of a tower block. The cat had somehow become perilously positioned on the exterior wall of the Hanley tower block - with no way of getting indoors.

The alarm was raised this morning. Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and the RSPCA were not involved in the rescue effort.

Instead it was left to residents to alert a housing association to the issue after the window could not be opened from inside the empty property. The cat was later brought back to safety.

The cat has since been taken to a vets to be checked over.
