The plans could see authorities like Nottinghamshire County Council being abolished

Plans for the biggest shake-up of Nottinghamshire's councils in 50 years are entering a critical phase ahead of a "tight" deadline just one month away. The government has confirmed that it is giving £370,000 in funding to Nottinghamshire to help council leaders draw up plans for the county's future political boundaries.

The plans could end up seeing every single current Nottinghamshire council, including the city and county authorities, completely scrapped. Brand new authorities could be created, one of which could see an expanded city council that would also cover areas like Rushcliffe and Gedling.
