The homes would be built on land off Southwell Lane
An affordable development could be built in an area of Nottinghamshire where 4,000 people are said to be on the council's housing waiting list. Ashfield District Council previously said it wanted to build 200 more council houses in the area over the next four years.
The authority, led by the Ashfield Independents, says there are now over 4,000 applicants on its housing register and that there is a need for more council homes and affordable accommodation. Plans for a new development of up to 70 affordable homes have now been unveiled for a 19-acre site in Kirkby-in-Ashfield.
The land, at the junction of Southwell Lane and Low Moor Road, was originally a railway sidings and featured a small warehouse unit in the early 2000s.
