The street where musician Rick Rose made such an impact on Niagara Falls will now bear his name.

Eleven months after his death from cancer , the city renamed a portion of Queen Street after Rose during a special event Saturday befitting the singer: Lots of live music, friends and family.

The new Rick Rose Way is between Buckley Avenue and St. Lawrence Avenue. The honorary renaming will be in place for five years, at which point council can extend it for another five years.

Council unanimously agreed to the renaming in December.

Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati said it was an “easy vote,” considering the decades of culture and charity work Rose contributed to the city.
