LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The 89th Session of the Texas Legislature is officially in the books. And when the lieutenant governor called sine die , he might as well have said, ‘class dismissed!’

While lawmakers addressed a range of issues—from the Texas Lottery to property taxes—it was public education that took the spotlight this session.

That includes top priorities from the governor, like a school voucher program and $8.5 billion in school funding. Other notable education bills include a ban on DEI in K-12 education, parent and school board oversight into library materials, and a cell phone ban in schools.
