BANKS COUNTY, Ga. — A 56-year-old was identified Sunday as the person killed during storms in Georgia on Saturday , with the Georgia Department of Public Safety saying it happened when a tree fell on a car.
According to DPS, Jason Payne of Carnesville, Georgia was traveling in a 2000 Nissan Altima on GA-51 near Garrison Road in Banks County when the tree fell.
Payne was traveling east on the state route, DPS said, when the tree on the south side of the roadway fell and struck the top of the Altima. The driver was pronounced deceased on scene, DPS said.
It happened a little before 7 p.m.
On Saturday, Gov. Brian Kemp had announced the fatality during the storms with a post on X.
