Nickel Belt MPP France Gelinas reintroduced a bill last week to stop what she calls a “gravy train” for private agencies that supply staff for hospitals and nursing homes.
Gelinas was joined by union leaders at Queen’s Park who support her proposed legislation, titled the Healthcare Staffing Agencies Act.

“Our publicly funded hospitals and long-term care homes are seeing their budgets drained by for-profit nursing agencies billing obscene amounts of money,” said Gelinas in a release. “Ontario’s minister of Health has taken no action to stop private for-profit nursing agencies from making millions of dollars in profit at the expense of quality of patient care. This needs to stop.”
